Upton Rear Extension & Dormer Loft Conversion
Upton · Completed 2022
Combined project in Upton, Wirral: a single-storey rear extension with bi-fold doors alongside a dormer loft conversion finished in dark cladding — completed early 2022.
The Brief
This Upton homeowner wanted to make the most of their property in one go: a single-storey rear extension to open up the ground floor, and a dormer loft conversion to unlock the space above. We took on the full scope — from groundworks and structural steelwork through to cladding, glazing, and final fix — completing the project in early 2022.
Timber Frame & Dormer Structure
The dormer was built out from the rear roof slope using a traditional timber frame, carefully engineered to carry the load of the flat-roof structure above. This stage is where the extra headroom is created — the frame sets the floor area and ceiling height that defines the finished room.

Rear Extension & Exterior Render
The single-storey rear extension was built alongside the dormer work, keeping disruption to one build phase. Bi-fold doors were specified to open up the rear of the house and connect the interior to the garden. Once the blockwork was up, a scratch coat of render was applied across the new extension walls — visible here in the full-build progress shot alongside the dormer structure taking shape above.

Completed — Dark Cladding Finish
The dormer was finished in dark composite cladding panels, giving the exterior a clean and contemporary look that works well against the existing brick below. Twin windows sit flush in the cladding face, and a flat-roof EPDM finish with recessed downlighters rounds off the detail. The result is a dormer that looks purposeful and high-spec from the outside — and delivers real, usable space inside.
